Aquilina Earrings
These incredible little earrings were very popular in antiquity, as several examples are known across cultures and eras. Our earrings were inspired by a solid gold Etruscan pair dating to the 6th century BC. They feature a small stylized bird whose form is molded simply but boldly sitting at the bottom of a hoop earring with a hinge clasp.
One "Aquilina" was a Christian Roman child from Byblos, Lebanon, who lived from AD 281 to 293. Martyred at the age of 12, she was to become an early Christian saint. Her name comes from the Latin word "aquila," or eagle.
