Etruscilla Earrings

€431,95

These dynamic earrings are based on an ancient Roman example. Here, five small ornamented domes cascade from the ear with a beautiful chandelier effect.

"Etruscilla" is the female form of the name "Etruscus," which suggests relation in some way to the lands of Etruria. One notable Etruscilla was Herennia Cupressenia Etruscilla, who was empress married to the Roman emperor Trajan Decius (r. AD 249 - 251). She would go on to become mother of two future emperors, Herennius Etruscus (r. AD 251) and Hostilian (r. AD 251). Though very little is known about Herennia Etruscilla, she was represented on much Roman coinage of the time. Several coins describer her as Augusta, a title she gained when Decius rose to the throne.
