Sulpicia Earrings

¥41,600

These stately earrings are as regal as they are unique, and they are based on an ancient Roman example. Here, three domes surrounded by chains of small spheres support a gorgeous curved hoop, below.

One Sulpicia was the niece of the Roman statesman Valerius Messalle Corvinus (64 BC - AD 8). It was Corvinus who, among other great acts, proposed bestowing upon Augustus the title pater patriae in 2 BC. Corvinus was also a great patron of the literary arts, specificially of a group of writers known as the Corpus Tibullianum, one of whom was Sulpicia. Six of Sulpicia's poems remain, today. They are love elegies, often addressed to or about her own dear love, Cerinthus.
