Diana Earrings AMOR

These playful hoop earrings feature an extraordinary bell-shaped dangle ornamented with geometric designs in the form of triangles and zigzag "lightning" patterns. They are inspired by a glittering gold Roman example dating to the first century AD.

According to mythology, the Roman "Diana" was the twin sister of Apollo, god of hunting and of the sun. She was therefore a goddess of hunting as well, as well as a goddess of the moon. In Roman art, the goddess Diana was often shown dressed for the hunt, wearing her short chiton and with a quiver attached to her back. In sculpture, in fact, she is often shown reaching back with her right hand to take an arrow out of her quiver, that she will affix to the bow held in her left hand.

DIana was also, importantly, a protector of young girls, as we hear from Catullus, in his Carmina: "We, upright maids and youths, are in Diana's care: upright youths and maids, we sing Diana." - Catul. 34

Our earrings are available in 925 Sterling Silver for $125, and in golden Yellow Silver for $65.
