Antonia Earrings
These gorgeous bead earrings are inspired by several ancient examples dating from the first and second centuries AD. Here, a solid gold bead is attached to a beautifully curved hoop.
Antonia is the female patronymic form of the name Antonius. One famous Antonia was Antonia the Younger (36 BC - AD 37), daughter of Mark Antony. She holds an important place in history, as she did within her family, because she was the wife of Drusus (brother of the emperor Tiberius), mother of the great Roman general Germanicus and the future emperor Claudius, and grandmother of the future emperor Caligula. As such, she played an active role in imperial politics, and was one of the most powerful figures of the early years of the Roman empire. She was celebrated for her beauty and, above all, for her virtue and faithfulness.
