Honoria Earrings
Sweet, simple, classic. These earrings were among the most popular in Roman times, as countless examples known today attest. Here, two solid gold orbs dangle from a flat upper plate. Our earrings are based on an example found in the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii, dating to before AD 79.
"Honoria" is the female patronymic form of the name Honorius. One famous Honoria was Justa Grata Honoria (born c. 418 – died c. 455), the older sister of the Western Roman Emperor Valentinian III. A strong and independent woman, Honoria is known perhaps above all for her association with and love for Attila the Hun. Indeed, it was specifically her aid that led him to proclaim that he ruled the Western Roman Empire.
