Concordia Bracelet

$361.00

This thin and elegant bracelet is a sleek rounded tube with an oval overall shape. It is based on an example from the site of the Roman town of Herculaneum, and dates before AD 79.

"Concordia" means "harmony." As a divine personification, Concordia represented social and marital peace and agreement. When associated with Pax, or Peace, by the government, in arts or coinage, she could also represent a stable society. She was often invoked particularly by the imperial family as "Concordia Augusta" (or "Harmony of the Imperial House"), as inscriptions, dedications, and temples attest.

On imperial coinage, Concordia was often shown as a female figure standing between two other figures, symbolizing their harmony or the result of their collective good, such as two emperors or members of the imperial house, or two other gods or goddesses.
