Bejeweled! These classic earrings add a touch of glamor to any occasion. Our Agrippina earrings feature a round garnet cabochon stone beneath which dangles a similar stone of oval shape; both are set into a beautifully articulated bezel. The earrings feature a Roman hook at the back, and are based on an ancient Roman example from the second century AD.

Agrippina (or "little Agrippa") the younger (AD 13 - 59) was no other than the niece of the Roman emperor Claudius, and the mother of the emperor Nero. While the historical tradition has not been kind to Agrippina (nor Nero, himself), she was likely a very intelligent and strong woman. As empress, she became wealthy and powerful. As mother of the young emperor Nero, she thrived. It was really she and Nero's tutor, Seneca the Younger, who ran the empire during the first five years of Nero's reign. Those years would be among the best the Roman empire ever experienced; they were referred to fondly as the Quinquennium Neronis by the future emperor Trajan, and Trajan himself was arguably Rome's best emperor, period.
