Ancient Graffiti Pendants
Have you seen the writing on the wall? ROMAE has a new pendant collection based on ancient examples of graffiti! The ancient Romans often wrote their sentiments on walls, as a trip to Pompeii makes abundantly clear - red painted slogans (or "dipinti") appear everywhere on the facades of buildings along every block! But the inhabitants of Pompeii and other Roman cities also actually scratched little designs or phrases (these are the true "graffiti") into the fresco adorning the interior or exterior walls of homes, business and public venues. Many of these have been preserved, and it is amazing to see that the ancient Romans were often writing about the same types of things that are important to us, today! Among other topics such as birth announcements, political slogans, celebratory dates, and the Greek and Latin alphabets (for practice, we assume!), the most popular sorts of graffiti were more personal - especially the outlandishly slanderous, and, wonderfully, the proclamations of love and happiness. It is this last group of graffiti examples that we have captured with our collection - sentiments that are as touching and meaningful as they are timeless. We bring them to you here in their original written form, to enhance your direct connection to the past. Wear or give the sentiment that means the most to you! With this collection, we -- like the Romans -- wish you love, happiness and luck.
