Special Instructions
This strong bracelet is based on an example from Iberia (roughly the areas of ancient Spain and Portugal) dating from the fourth century BC. Its interior and exterior are ribbed, creating an incredible texture, and a striking play of light.
Epona was the ancient Iberian goddess of fertility, and a protector of horses. Unlike other Celtic deities, the worship of Epona was actually brought to Rome and enjoyed great success there in the first centuries BC and AD. Many inscriptions written in Latin and dedicated to Epona have been found, including one with the diminutive, Eponina, or "little Epona," and others that show that she was incorporated into the imperial cult. As her worship became more Romanized over time, Epona became above all a protector of the cavalry, and her cult spread throughout the Roman empire by the Imperial Horse Guard (equites singulares augustii), and the auxiliary cavalry (alae).
